Cold gas-dynamic spraying technologies help improve routine ship maintenance and extend the service life of their aging components. We believe that the main advantages of cold spraying are faster repairs and reduced costs associated with the reuse of ship parts.

Cold spraying refers to repair work performed at low temperatures, where the joining process takes place within a range of 100 °C to 500 °C. Traditional welding methods start at approximately 2,760 °C. The joining occurs due to the high velocity and shaping kinetic energy with which the powder strikes the workpiece, rather than due to high temperature, which helps prevent deformation and damage to the workpiece’s metallic properties. Cold spraying is also useful for joining more brittle non-metals, such as ceramics.

U.S. Navy engineers have previously demonstrated the use of cold spraying as a new approach to repairing naval equipment.
